About Us

SHARP is a voluntary organization. Bangladesh is one of the poorest amongst the third world countries. People of this country are passing very hard time to improve their socio economic status. The scenario is very painful in the rural and undeveloped areas of the country. Sirajganj is such undeveloped and disaster prone areas of Bangladesh. Most of the areas of the district are eroded by Jamuna river and after a certain period areas appeared on the river are known as Char. The lands of the Char areas are mostly barren or less fertile and people of these areas are fully depending on this type of land to survive. There are limited scopes of work in these areas as whole areas covered with unproductive land and unplanned use of resources of the areas. The development activities are shattered due to lack of insufficient assistance and proper guidance from others. Moreover, natural disasters like flood, river erosion, windstorm, drought, heavy rain, cold wave, lot of children in char areas out of school. are very common in these areas. After attacked by any disaster especially those are most destructive that hamper people’s livelihood and losses bring them difficult situation for next few months or more. On the other hand, people of these areas are mostly illiterate and have strong believed on superstition that adversely affects the poorer section specially women, children and distress people. With these adverse situation socio economic condition is very worst in whole Sirajganj & Pabna district compare to other part of the country. To get rid of the situation or to help inhabitants of these areas SHARP started its operation in early 1992.

Welcome to SHARP

Message from the director’s desk

SHARP (Socio-Health and Rehabilitation Program) has passed 30 years to make an effort for socio economic uplift in rural Bangladesh especially in Sirajgonj areas.

This organization is implementing various programs for the wellbeing of disadvantaged people since 1992. The experiences of those years have profoundly shaped our vision. We have also gone through a learning period and this has helped shaped our strategies and has given us a sense of direction. Extending hands of our partner organizations in this endeavor are very encouraging.

The efforts of SHARP, though small, have so far been crowned with success. I deliberate my extreme thanks and gratitude to all of General Council and Executive Committee members who gave us suggestion and direction for successful implementation of its programs. I would also like to special thanks to the chairman of Executive Committee for his effective guidance on success.

I acknowledge the contribution of all officials of SHARP especially the field workers, who put their hard labor and sincere efforts without which success of SHARP would not have been possible. I also appreciate the contribution of all government officials, civil society, media, and political leaders along with people those who we are working for of the districts for their kind cooperation to implement the programs successfully.

I express my gratefulness and worm congratulation to our donor/funding agencies both present and previous for their kind cooperation and support without which SHARP could not achieve its objectives.

I am assured that SHARP will play a vital role in elimination of poverty and improve the quality of people life of rural areas in the future.
